Responding to God’s Word

*Song of Response

Here, O Our Lord, We See You Face to Face
Text: Horatius Bonar (1855)
Music: MORECAMBE, Frederick C. Atkinson (1870)
Ruth Pfister, organ
Musical notation with text (PDF)

Here, O our Lord, we see you face to face;
Here would we touch and handle things unseen,
Here grasp with firmer hand eternal grace,
And all our weariness upon you lean.

We have no help but yours, nor do we need
Another arm save yours to lean upon.
It is enough, O Lord, enough indeed;
Our strength is in your might, your might alone.

This is the hour of banquet and of song;
This is the heavenly table for us spread;
Here let us feast and, feasting, still prolong
The fellowship of living wine and bread.

Too soon we rise; the symbols disappear.
The feast, though not the love, is past and gone;
The bread and wine remove, but you are here,
Nearer and ever, still our sheild and sun.

Feast after feast thus comes and passes by,
Yet, passing, points to that glad feast above,
Giving sweet foretaste of the festal joy,
The Lamb’s great bridal feast of bliss and love.

Symphoniae sacrae III, op. 12 Nr. 20,
Komm, heiliger Geist (SWV 417)
(“Come, Holy Spirit, God and Lord”)
by Heinrich Schütz
Deborah Fogal, Soprano
Bettina Schneebeli, Alto
Zachary Fogal, Tenor
Gregory Finch, Tenor
Kai Bischoff, Bass
Vanessa Bischoff, Violoncello
Ruth Pfister, Organ

Come, Holy Spirit, Lord God,
fill with the goodness of your grace
the heart, spirit and mind of your believers,
kindle in them your ardent love !
O Lord, through the splendour of your light
you have gathered in faith
people from all the tongues of the world;
so that in your praise Lord, may there be sung
Halleluja! Halleluja!

ou holy light, precious refuge,
let the word of life enlighten us
and teach us to know God truly,
to call him father from our heart!
O Lord, protect us from strange doctrines
so that we may never look for any teacher
except Jesus in true belief
and may trust him wholeheartedly!
Halleluja! Halleluja!

You sacred warmth, sweet consolation,
now help us always to remain joyful and comforted
in your service,
do not let sorrow drive us away!
O Lord, through your power make us ready
and strengthen the feebleness of our flesh
so that we may bravely struggle
through life and death to reach you!
Halleluja! Halleluja!
